Food Domino Trail

A cooperative picture-matching activity for Starter-level English learners. Children connect six food dominoes, name the matching pictures and work together to build a trail or loop. Repeated vocabulary practice is supported by visual matching and turn-taking.

Target Vocabulary: milk, chocolate, pears

Activity

  • The teacher cuts out the six dominoes along the dashed outer lines.
  • Place one domino on the table and keep the remaining cards visible.
  • Children find a matching food picture and connect the two ends.
  • Say the food word at each join, rotating cards when helpful.
  • Continue until all six dominoes form a matching trail or loop.

Learning Goal: Identify and name familiar food pictures while cooperating to complete a matching task.

Teacher’s Insight: The two pears together represent the target word pears. Children name the food category; counting the individual objects is not required. A valid complete trail is included on the teacher’s page.
