A supported speaking activity for Starter-level English learners. Children choose a face symbol beside each food picture and share their preferences using a short sentence. The visual choices help learners connect meaning with spoken language without writing sentences.
Target Vocabulary: milk, chocolate, pears
Target Language: I like… / I don’t like…
Activity
- Review the three food pictures together.
- Model the smiling face for “I like…” and the other face for “I don’t like…”.
- Children circle one face in each row to show their preference.
- Invite children to point and say a matching sentence, such as “I like pears.”
- Partners listen to each other’s choices. Children may leave a row blank if they are unsure or unfamiliar with a food.
Learning Goal: Express a simple food preference using a visual prompt and a supported sentence pattern.
Teacher’s Insight: Preferences have no correct answer. Check whether the spoken sentence matches the chosen symbol. Children may place a counter instead of circling or speak for an imaginary character.
