Family Picture Puzzles

This watercolor worksheet helps beginner young learners practise two family words through a simple picture puzzle. Children join two halves to rebuild each teacher-introduced fictional family portrait, then name the person. No independent reading or writing is required. Includes a separate teacher page with preparation, speaking support, an answer guide and accessible alternatives.

Target Vocabulary: Mum, dad.

Activity:

  • Prepare: The teacher introduces the characters and cuts the two portraits into four pieces.
  • Explore: Look at the pieces and find the matching halves.
  • Join: Rebuild both portraits on the table.
  • Say: Name each character with teacher support.
  • Try another way: Keep the top halves fixed and choose the matching bottom halves.

Learning Goal: To recognise and name two familiar family characters while practising visual matching and part-to-whole understanding.
