Family Listening Line

This watercolor worksheet helps beginner young learners connect spoken family words with pictures. Children listen to one word at a time and place matching cards in a three-space listening mat, then name the sequence. No independent reading or writing is required. Includes six picture cards and a separate teacher page with listening scripts, answer sequences and accessible alternatives.

Target Vocabulary: Mum, dad.

Activity:

  • Prepare: The teacher cuts out the six cards and keeps the listening mat.
  • Meet: Practise the two fictional characters’ family roles.
  • Listen: Hear one target word at a time.
  • Place: Put a matching card in the next space, following the arrow.
  • Say: Name the completed sequence together, then clear the mat.
  • Try another way: Start with two spaces or point while an adult places the cards.

Learning Goal: To recognise spoken family words and follow a supported sequence while building confidence in speaking.
