The Secret House

A speaking and listening worksheet for young learners using Super Minds Second Edition Level 1. Children ask about a hidden house card, listen to their partner’s answers and record what they discover. Includes two watercolour house cards, a question form and a separate English teacher guide.

Target Vocabulary
frog, frogs, bedroom, kitchen

Target Language
“Is there a frog in the bedroom?”
“Yes, there is.” / “No, there isn’t.”
“Are there any frogs in the kitchen?”
“Yes, there are.” / “No, there aren’t.”

Activity

  • An adult cuts out the two house cards, leaving the question form intact.
  • Give one card secretly to the answerer and keep the other out of sight.
  • Ask both questions with teacher support.
  • Listen and circle the answer circle beside Yes or No.
  • Reveal the card and check both answers.
  • Erase the marks, swap roles and repeat with a secretly chosen card.

Learning Goal
Ask singular and plural questions about presence, understand short answers and record information from a partner.

Teacher’s Insight
Explain that each small room panel shows all the frogs in that room. An empty space means there are no frogs. The large room pictures on the question form are prompts; only the hidden card supplies the answers. Independent reading is not required.
