A picture-pair activity for Starter-level English learners. Children match six face-up cards to make three pairs, naming each worker’s job as they go. The activity combines visual recognition with repeated vocabulary practice. Includes a separate teacher page with preparation, an answer key and accessible alternatives.
Target Vocabulary: doctor, gardener, fire fighter
Activity
- The teacher cuts out the six cards along the dashed outlines.
- Review the three job words.
- Spread all cards face up and find two pictures of the same person.
- Place the pair together and say the job word.
- Check with a partner, then mix the cards and change roles.
Learning Goal: Recognise matching characters and confidently name three familiar jobs.
Teacher’s Insight: Keep the cards visible during the main activity. Begin with two pairs if children need fewer choices; no hidden-card recall is required.
