Our Action Chart

A cooperative counting and speaking worksheet for Starter-level English learners. Four children mime familiar actions and record their choices in a simple picture chart. The activity connects spoken language with counting and visual recording. Includes a separate teacher page with a demonstration, answer guide and accessible alternatives.

Target Vocabulary: run, read, dance; one, two, three, four

Target Language: I’m running. / I’m reading. / I’m dancing.

Activity:

  • Work in groups of four with one worksheet.
  • Each child chooses an action, mimes it and says the matching sentence.
  • Shade one square in the corresponding row for each child, starting from the left.
  • Count the shaded squares in each row.
  • Say the action word and number separately, such as “Run. Two.”

Learning Goal: Record four spoken action choices visually and count the resulting groups.

Teacher’s Insight: The chart records chosen mimes, not favourite hobbies. Each child is counted once, so the completed chart contains four shaded squares altogether.
