A fold-and-share speaking activity for Starter-level English learners. Children reveal three illustrated panels and describe each place using a short sentence. The concertina format provides a visual prompt for repeated speaking practice. Includes a separate teacher page with preparation, language models and accessible alternatives.
Target Vocabulary: school, park, toy shop
Target Language: There’s a school. / There’s a park. / There’s a toy shop.
Activity
- Print the student page single-sided.
- The teacher cuts around the dashed outer rectangle and folds the two solid dividers in alternating directions.
- Reveal one panel and describe its place.
- Open the remaining panels one at a time and say a sentence for each.
- Share with a partner, then swap speaker and listener.
Learning Goal: Use “There’s a…” to describe individual places with visual support.
Teacher’s Insight: For children who need help handling folds, leave the strip flat and cover two panels with plain paper. Reveal one picture at a time while keeping the same speaking task.
