My Favourite Zoo Animal

This watercolor worksheet helps beginner young learners express a simple preference through drawing and supported speaking. Children choose one of four pictured animals, draw it in the large space and name their choice. No independent reading or writing is required. Includes a separate teacher page with speaking support, guidance for sharing and accessible alternatives.

Target Vocabulary: Parrot, fish, zebra, lion.

Target Language: Teacher prompt: “What’s your favourite animal?” Supported response: one animal word, such as “Lion.”

Activity:

  • Explore: Name the four pictured animals together.
  • Choose: Point to a favourite from the four choices.
  • Draw: Sketch the chosen animal in the large space.
  • Share: Show the drawing and name the animal.
  • Try another way: Point to the chosen picture or let an adult help with drawing.

Learning Goal: To communicate a personal choice using familiar animal vocabulary and participate in a supported speaking exchange.
