A supported mime-and-speak activity for Starter-level English learners. Children choose a watercolour action card, imagine performing the action and describe it with an “I’m…” sentence. Three large picture cards provide clear prompts without reading or writing. Includes a separate teacher page with language models and alternatives.
Target Vocabulary: run, read, dance
Target Language: I’m running. / I’m reading. / I’m dancing.
Activity:
- The teacher cuts out the three picture cards.
- Keep the cards face up and review the actions.
- Choose one card and rehearse a small mime.
- Mime the action while saying its “I’m…” sentence.
- A partner points to the matching card.
- Swap roles and choose another action.
Learning Goal: Use a short first-person sentence to describe an action being mimed.
Teacher’s Insight: All actions can be mimed seated. Children may also point and speak in an imagined role without moving.
